UK connectivity specialist appointed to the board of worldwide 1394 trade association
Oxford Semiconductor's Founder and Chief Technical Officer, Dr. Jalil Oraee has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the worldwide 1394 Trade Association. Elected from a membership of 170 companies, Oxford becomes the first European component manufacturer to take up a board position.
The non profit-making trade association was founded in 1994 to support the development of computer and consumer electronics systems, that could be easily interconnected via a single serial multimedia link. The IEEE 1394 standard has since spawned the ubiquitous multimedia connection solution, also known as 'FireWire' and 'i.LINK'.
Oraee commented, "It's a great honour and opportunity to serve as a Director of the Association. Oxford Semiconductor, like so many companies in Europe, is totally committed to the advancement of the IEEE 1394 multimedia standard. With the concept of home networking gathering a great momentum, it's a very exciting time for IEEE 1394 enabled consumer electronics."
The elections for 2002 were concluded at the association's Annual General Meeting in Kona, Hawaii. The 18-man board is responsible for the on-going policy-making, funding and standards oversight governing the 1394 Trade Association. More details about the organisation can be found at www.1394ta.org.
