Oxford Semiconductor storage and audio technologies on display at MacWorld
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., January 10, 2006 - Oxford Semiconductor Inc, a leading provider of high performance connectivity solutions for consumer, storage, and multimedia applications, today announced that it will showcase its FireWire storage and audio solutions at the MacWorld Conference & Expo this week at Moscone Center in San Francisco.
Oxford will display its mature, Mac-proven connectivity technology for direct attached storage solutions. A market leader in FireWire storage controllers for external hard drives, Oxford has introduced innovative features that help external drive manufacturers keep digital content safe including hardware RAID and encryption.
"According to the University of California, Berkeley, every person in the world generates more than 800Mbytes of information and 92 percent of this information is in electronic format and stored on hard drives," said Jacqui Adams, Oxford Semiconductor marketing manager, storage products. "The digital information boom is fueled by the proliferation of electronic and multimedia devices and much of this content is irreplaceable. Utilizing external hard drives for storage is the perfect way to backup data and keep precious content safe."
In addition to its FireWire storage solutions, Oxford will also feature its innovative FireWireaudio solutions. Oxford is leading the charge toward quality audio sound for consumer laptop users and is opening a new world of audio through its FireWire audio controllers. Mac laptops and the Mac Mini are ideally suited to benefit from this technology, and for the first time consumers can enjoy the same rich audio quality that they have on their desktop or home stereo systems.
"Until now, transporting audio over FireWire has only been found in professional applications where sound studios and other high end users have embraced FireWire as the standard interface for streaming audio," said Sundar Vanchinathan, Oxford Semiconductor vice president of audio and media products.
Located at booth #2639, Oxford will showcase a selection of external hard drives from leading brands built around their storage controllers and will also display their FireWire audio controllers.
